I’m hunting not eating. Being hungry at times makes me focused and gives me mental clarity and it’s one more distraction. Stupid phones bad enough.water and staying warm is about all I care about.

You don’t need applesauce small packs they make squeezable pouches. Just get past the click of untwisting it before going out.

Uncrustables repackaged into a ziplock are great
Cashews.
Fig bar.
Almonds.
Popcorn.

Food is fuel. It keeps your engine running, so it’s helpful on cold days as well. But I usually eat a Clif bar and have some water before I leave the parking lot. It takes your body a while to digest it, so you’re probably near your stand by the time that starts happening, Water is good to have as well, Odds are you probably worked quite a bit to get to your Beast spot, so your body will have used some and it’s important not to get dehydrated. I mean, you’re going to have a deer to pull out, right? The above mainly applies to half-day or less type deals.

But some real food can give you a mental boost too on a day-long deal. I sometimes take in an egg mcmuffin… good protein, a little fat and not a lot of carbs. Wrap it in something that won’t make a bunch of noise. You don’t need a lot of food, just enough to keep the engine room lit.

If I take anything to eat and that's a big IF, it's usually a protein bar or 2. Water is more important me if it's hot out.

Pocketful of pistachios mostly. But I’ve also probably ate my body weight in cheese and crackers. No worse feeling in the world for me than being in the right spot and having my stomach start sounding like a grunt tube not even halfway through my hunt. I know myself pretty good and when I start getting super cold or hungry my mind starts working against me.

I have settled in to a go to snack for deer season.
Mentos are able to fill most of our needs on short hunts .
Available most everywhere, pocket size, quiet, able to get a single piece with a single hand, from a pocket!! And no unwrapping.
They have a refreshing, thirst quencher effect so I can go without water on short hunts. A piece will last 10 minutes plus, if you don't chomp it. Then you won't need to be running for a drink like some snacks.

Just what you need and nothing you don't. Try them this season.
You don't have to be the best, just do your best.

I mostly bring food for morning hunts and I mostly morning hunt. I bring food because ill go in 2-3 hours before sun up and the deer may not move through till 9:30 at times. Thermos of grits and thermos of coffee. Afternoon maybe a bar.

I walk a lot in pretty steep areas using a lot of energy and wouldn’t make it long without food and water. I usually have deer jerky or bagel with cream cheese or some type of sandwich or hard boiled eggs. Sometimes a trail mix type of snack but try to avoid sugar.
Some do. Some don't. I just might...

On short hunts I rarely bring anything.

Haven't tried the squeeze applesauce packets yet didn't even know they made them.

If my stomach growls I can hear it so I believe a buck could hear it. Definitely on a quiet still morning. Where I hunt it's often very hot and steep. I burn through alot of energy getting too the tree.
