Ohio bow kill 11/11. An epic hunt off the ground. The buck is good but the story is better.

Re: 2021-2022 BEAST Buck Lineup
I know these are supposed to be short and I would love to say I tracked this buck for 5 hours and shot it at 10 yards asleep in its bed. This story is better than that. My friend is a play maker. He played D1 hockey because of the way he passed the puck. I focus on big woods and love to hunt solo when there is snow. This year the scope is constantly filled with snow and the snow is knee deep. But this isn't about that. An old high school friend asked if he could stay at my shack for the night. We went and got ribeyes cut from the local store for the grill and took a sauna at the shack and stayed up too late. He asked if I wanted to hunt with him in the AM and sit in the same stand. It took a little time to say yes because there is tracking snow and I cherish the few days of vacation per year getting "lost" in the big woods with snow. But something changed my mind and I thought, sure, let's sit together at your spot. This guy likes to have people sit with him and loves when they get the shot. We got up early and retold old stories until we were late into the woods. After we settled in so we were really ready, I dug out my grunt tube and blat can. The deer got all stirred up. My buddy just wanted some deer meat and wanted a 6pt or bigger. But with only 30 minutes left for him to hunt we still agreed to pass on a 6pt trailing a doe. Then another doe came through to inspect the call staring right at us. But, she was also acting squirrely. Afraid of something behind her. Her head dropped and she bounded off. This is not my first rodeo. I held my gun shouldered right on that spot for 10 minutes or more. This buster came through on a fast trot into my crosshairs and I shot his heart off his lungs. It was floating in the liquified lungs inside the diaphragm. Happened in 2 seconds. Next step the buck would have been gone. Right after that, the 6pt came out too and stood behind the big boy on the ground. We passed again. This is my second biggest buck ever and he party tagged it. Can you imagine? He knows I'm a maniac about killing bucks. All I did was bury the puck. In my mind it's his deer. I did nothing. That's what happened. I think about giving him the mount but that will be hard for me so maybe he'll let me share it every other year. I don't know. He's not expecting anything. Just wanted half the meat. Wants me to shoot another one so he can have half.

My wife and I both tagged out on opening morning of the MO gun season. I sat on the ground and shot mine at 35 yards after he worked over a scrape and licking branch and stopped to pee in it. Mine is on the left.

11/14. Grunted him in around noon from the ground. Had to but scoot 5 yards to intercept him. Doe bleat to stop him at the last open window. Shot at 25 yards. Ran 75 and laid down. Head dropped 20 minutes later.
