Re: Hunter 2021
Most people- myself included years ago- would’ve hunted the morning despite the lack of sign because of the long hike.
It takes serious discipline to not hunt. To instead, scout.
Hunting more does not mean a higher percentage of an encounter. Making those hunts count, as you said, is the way to go.
Good decision and good luck!!

Re: Hunter 2021
Went back to near the same spot as yesterday moved about 40 yards and had to tuck into a dangerous type tree so my thermal and wind was pulling away from where the bucks bed.
After scaring them yesterday I dunno if they will come back through today wind is different. Worth a shot.
Let's hope my aiming is better then yesterday lol..

That's awesome that you are getting on them! You are going to connect, it's just a matter of time.
Pretty cool you are already seeing some rubs as well. Hope you figure these areas out!

Re: Hunter 2021
This afternoon had 2 deer go downwind of me and smell me never saw what they were but they came out of buck bedding.
Going to let this area rest now till November I grid hunted it the last two days. Put alot of pressure on that small chunk.

Probably will scout more in the morning trying to locate fresh hot sign.

Re: Hunter 2021
Just checked the cam I pulled this morning. That i left because their was no fresh buck sign. And didn't hunt.
Well to my surprise it has a 9 point with a huge crab claw really palmated one huge grown together piece.
Has a 150ish 10 a brute with alot of mass at least 10 i got only one pic of him from a side back look at rack he may be a 11 or 12 point.
And a very wide tall 8 point way way outside the ears not alot of mass but really tall. May be the tallest rack I've ever seen on cam ever.
All 3 bucks are very unique racks.
I was really shocked when I looked at the video.
All came from the bedding area I suspected but its really just a few beds along a pine transition. Never knew the area held any big bucks it was just a place with large old rubs. So I figured I'd just see if anything was their.
I really had no intention of hunting this area but its on my radar now. With the lack of new sign I figured hunters had killed it out in previous years. Its pretty heavily hunted.
I had 0 expectations for this area and pretty stunned by the caliber of bucks it holds.

Re: Hunter 2021
Here's one buck I have on my radar not sure if he is a 11 or 12 point. Seen some like him in Stewart County lbl the area has more big ones in their then most people think. Recently got him on cam.
For Tn he is a decent buck for public.
I know you guys in Iowa and Wisconsin make him look like a yearling.

Slept in this morning.
Ran to china mart and picked up a mini target to shoot and figure out what happened the other day.
Picked up some breakfast stuff.
Put new batteries in my headlamps.
Typical hunting matienence stuff.
Will be Stewart County lbl the next few days.
Hopefully I havent bored you guys out and your somewhat enjoying my hunts.

So far you've seen more big bucks in the last few days than I have seen in the last few years. Look forward to seeing more posts in this thread!

Re: Hunter 2021
In the tree.
Big scrapes all in here put a cam over one.
Its 83 sunny hot and windy .
I'm really paranoid about this area its one of my best.
I parked about a mile down the road and parked my suv in the woods don't think its legal but oh well they won't find it anyway. Its not visible from main road
I never hunt my best on weekends im terrified of anyone noticing my car.
I plan on hunting this area this week.
I have i think 13 or 14 areas this season from 200 acre chunks upto about 600 acre pieces. The area lbl is like 60k acres but obviously I won't be hunting it all. Going to try to grid hunt them one after another, all my areas about 3-7 days in each one. Mornings and evenings.
Obviously in mornings I'm not bed hunting. I'm more of learning where does travel bed feed. And if I kill am buck great if not ill learn alot. Can't kill a buck sitting at work or sleeping.
So far I have confirmed large bucks in several of the chunks.
Wind is perfect for this spot.
I'm hunting a spot with bedding to my east 90 yards and other bedding 130 yards north. Jumped 2 deer on the way in here.
I'm hunting where 3 tranition lines meet near a big ditch meets a drainage.
I'm 20 feet up in a tree with alot of cover.
Their is 5 deer trails that intersect here and its the first acorns after they leave bedding in this direction.

Re: Hunter 2021
Saw 2 does tonight.
It was really sticky hot.
Hit a copperhead with the car as I was driving to grab some dinner.
Going back to the same spot in the morning it just has a good feel to it. Worth a pm and am sit. Even left my beast stand in the tree but ill be back at 4am.
Thought I heard a buck grunt in bedding to my east but never heard and footsteps leave that area.I know big buck bedding is over their.
