Topo map opinions
Hey y’all so I’m new to this forum and look forward to learning as much as I can on here! So I’m going to attach a pic of the two farms I have to hunt. One has corn and the other soybeans. I’m trying to learn topo maps as well so can y’all point out the draws, funnels and etc for me so I know what I’m looking at?
Thank you!

Re: Topo map opinions
I’ll be interested to see what the more experienced Beasts on here have to say.
Looks like a great place overall. Lots of edge.
Area I find myself drawn to is the transition from corn to beans at the bottom of the lower bean field.

Re: Topo map opinions
Three areas I’m immediately drawn to:
1. Water in west side.
2. Strip of timber between corn fields that links the larger wood lots on either end.
3. Wooded finger sticking out into the field marked with 2 “C’s”.
No particular order. The creek to the south is another spot too.

Thanks for the reply’s fellas!
Been some decent bucks taken off these two farms over the years. But just hasn’t held many bucks. Found a few rubs today where the beans and corn connect in the lower right side of the pic
What would be some of y’all’s tactics to hunt
Most of all the woods areas are really thick and have a lot of undergrowth

Re: Topo map opinions
I pretty much have access all the way around the two farms
My farm with the beans I can mainly come in from the east to get to any of the spots where I normally hunt.
The 70 acres with all the corn is a farm I haven’t hunted in years but recently got permission to go back on and I can gain access to it pretty much every direction.
I do plan on scouting those corn fields from a distance once they combine the corn. And check out the the areas another beast mentioned.
Anyone have any other tips?
Thanks again!

Re: Topo map opinions
Nice. Hopefully one of the more seasoned veterans will chime in soon. But for me I’d be interested in the peninsula of trees protruding into the corn field on the south. I wouldn’t be surprised to find some buck bedding on the eastern side of that area towards the tip. If that is indeed what’s happening there, then I would anticipate movement from that area across the tree’d fence line separating those fields (heading towards the bean fields) which would be an ideal ambush site particularly while the corn is still standing and providing cover.
I’d love to hear back from you on this as you hunt and brake this area down. Fun times, and great learning opportunity

On a South wind, the center of the intersection of the wooded "T" on the corn farm would be where I'd be once they start cruising in daylight hours.
Access from the North and stay there all day if you can.

Re: Topo map opinions
Hey guys! So just refreshing this post! Last year was a rough year for my deer season. The deer gave me the slip most days!
Did have one chance at a decent big but came in and winded me.
I hope y’all had a great season last year and are off to a great season this year!
Mike

Re: Topo map opinions
From my point of view I really like alot of the rut cruising areas. I was drawn to the creek with transition nearby and the features around it.
I definitely like the funnel between the field and the creek. And the lake and the field.
I'd expect bedding on the transition green on neighbors.
Probably when the wind is coming from the south to north.
Smelling those houses.
Overlooked bedding may be in one of the tree areas in the field on the side of one of those draws.

Re: Topo map opinions
This map I like the T for rut cruising.
I'd probably sit it on a wind out of the south so my wind blows into the field.
And other green circle areas setup for rut.
The southeastern circle bucks may try to cut through their while looking for does. Along the backside of those fields.
I'd definitely walk the top peninsula that goes into the field south to north. A buck may shift bed around it on different winds.
