Re: 2022 scouting thread
Got about 5 miles in today, found numerous beds in a area that's kicked my but trying to figure out(had a really wide nice buck on camera in there last season). I'm just as confused now as i was when i started. Found beds in every suspected bedding area but mostly looked like does to me. Almost no buck sign in any of the bedding or on trails coming and going and all the beds i found today weren't very big. Even during the season i didn't see any scrapes in the area but there's a ton of deer sign ie browsing, poop, beds, and worn down trails. There's one spot entering the marsh from the obvious human entrance that has like 10-12 medium rubs within 30 ft and none outside of that area. Time to expand the search radius.

Re: 2022 scouting thread
I got out last weekend, we ended up hiking about 7 miles total. I had some spots that I had been wanting to look at for a couple years now & boy I was glad i did. I believe I found a couple of hidden gems, picked up some intel from a passer by that might really help me out. I am hoping to follow up on that intel tomorrow by burning some boot rubber!! I picked up a go pro and I want to play with that tomorrow to help record some of the things I find, and hopefully pair with waypoints somehow. I haven't tried this yet, but I am sure there is a way.

Re: 2022 scouting thread
I got out Monday morning till noon and got 6 kill trees prepped and found some answers to a few questions I had on a particular bedding area. Seen 2 nice Tom turkeys as well. All in all it was a successful day scouting.
Can't wait to get back at it.

Re: 2022 scouting thread
I did 3.5 miles of squirrel hunting and scouting Monday. Found a couple nice oak flats that were isolated. A few real nice rub lines as well. Mainly just learning the lay of the land.
Bummer of a birthmark, Hal.

Re: 2022 scouting thread
Got some pictures of a great big buck that dropped on January 22nd. Put in 10 miles last week looking for them, no luck, but what I did find will prove valuable this fall. Gonna try to get back out this weekend and give another look.

Re: 2022 scouting thread
I'm headed out to scout shortly here. When do you guys start deploying your trail cams? I have a property I want to pick apart and let some cams soak but I only want to go in once prior to season. Should i wait?

One side down! If I hadn’t walked 15 miles to find it I’d say it was luck

Re: 2022 scouting thread
Yesterday i drove to a neighboring state for a scout/ shed hunting day. Didn't find any antlers. This is hill country,,, i located 4 dynamite pinch points. 3 are ravine top crossings and 1 is a saddle. To access these a hunter needs to cross a small river, knee high boots will get you across it. Im amazed at how no one is willing to do this. Last fall i hunted this area the first week of November and i was all alone. And yet i was only a half mile from my truck.
Finding these spots made me realize that from my years on the beast here,,, these spots amd more importantly the surrounding elements of a pinch are becoming second nature to me. The lay of the topography, I'm constantly putting these things together without even realizing it i believe,, and it's really fun.
Anyway,, it's just really cool realizing this stuff is sinking in. So too all the newer beasts out there,,, keep on keeping on, you'll get there someday!!!!

Is it better to wait till snow melts to scout? At this time of year
