Earlier on this topic guys were talking about crab apples. Storms came through NJ the past couple of days and I found these all over the ground on the edge where swamp meets beech trees. What kind of fruit is this?

Actually went shining after work last night. Lots of deer in the grassy fields still. Actually saw doe groups bedding in there too. Shined some open hardwoods and clearcuts with oaks- saw nothing.

Definitely need someone with knowledge to confirm but it looks like persimmon. It says they can grow as far north as New Jersey and New York. Hopefully someone else can chime in and be more helpful

Sitting on thick oak ridge in hill country tonight. Wind is swirling pretty bad, hoping the thermals take over soon.

Burned through a big chunk of this property and didn't find much sign. Got late so I set up on a point butted up to a river. Wind is iffy at best.

Snuck back to one of my better spots this evening. Dead zone. Significant accumulation of acorns.

Time to re-evaluate. Gotta focus on spots where oak trees are limited.

Today I planned hunting a spot in some thick mountain laurel. I was working my way into the spot and it just turned into a nightmare. I couldn't find the clearing I was looking for. It looked a lot different now than it did in winter. After busting through a jungle of mountain laurel for a half hour I made it out to the logging trail. So I just blew up the area I was going to hunt and it was 3pm. I headed down the logging trail which will take me back to where I park. I almost just went home I was so irritated I remembered a spot about 200 yards from my car where there's a pretty good trail and some old rubs from last year. I walked in about 40 yards off the trail and found a fresh rub. Since I was out of time I setup my stand. At 5pm a buck stepped out of the thick pines in front of me. He was the 3 yr old 6pt I had on camera last year. I had a clear shot at 25 yards but I let him walk. I always shoot the smaller bucks and never kill a mature buck. He would have been my biggest buck with a bow but I have some really good bucks on camera this year. Just shows how you never know what's going to happen and don't give up. Another great hunt.

Bumped a deer walking in. Figured I would set up about 90yds from a finger that is next to a pond. Figured it would be a good spot with warmer temps and a drought. With all the tall corn and high winds my milkweed was going crazy. Long story short a buck was bedded at the point and he blew at me twice. Go figure lol

The three most important words in deer hunting right there.

Had 2 bulls bugling for last hour of light, but they were headed away from me. I got as close as 200 yards and then it got dark. Elk are stupid, and I hate them
