Ended up having a lone doe in range, but she was a little smaller than I wanted to shoot. Probably a 1.5 year old. Quiet night other than that.

Re: Live from the field 2022
Opening day in the morning I traveled 5 hours from home today to kick this Mickey Vickey off. This is the first of 3 stops. Gotta be honest it ain’t looking good. Got here around 1 and spent the better part of the day beating the bushes trying to find something promising. Didn’t kick up a single deer and not much deer sign at all. But the public army is in full force! On a 3000 acre piece I’ve seen well over 75 tents set up for the opening day spectacle. Locals say it’s the worst drought they’ve seen in decades and the horns are poor. Who knows, plan on hunting here til Monday and then head to happier hunting grounds for mid week.
On the positive….
I’ve got 10 days, my recurve, a quiver full of arrows, and a fistful of tags. So let’s do the dam thing!

Opening tomorrow. Forecast is east wind...

Funny because a few years ago I had no east wind spots.
Now my best spots are for a east wind.
Still haven't had a east wind so far this season.

Re: Live from the field 2022
Been set since 6:00. Got up earlier to beat the out of state crowd. Shined some cat eyes coming in but doesn’t mean they’re this years. Will check that on the way out. The lack of wind plus east wind doesn’t line up with much other than this spot. Primarily a doe bedding area but it will house a good buck as well. Sounds like a few trees are sparsely dropping in here which should stir up some action. Fill the freezer is the goal. Good luck everyone.

Go get em boogie. Sounds like a great way to spend 10 days. I think I recall you saying in the past that you like it when the odds are stacked against you?
Either way……bring it on!

Happy hunting everybody!
It was hard to imagine a scenario where I didn’t hunt this morning, but Ian provided me with one. Heading out soon, rain should taper off this evening hopefully.

Re: Live from the field 2022
Well it's gonna be live from the couch for a bit for me. Hurt my right knee playing bar league volleyball on Monday night like an idiot, might have torn my ACL.
Ortho suspects that's the case so I got in quickly for an MRI Thursday and should know more this week. Pain and swelling are becoming manageable and I'm working on rehab exercises, getting some range of motion back and just trying to stay positive. Hoping it may be possible to set up on the ground with the right knee brace if things continue improving.
Good luck to everyone out this weekend, don't take that time for granted and I'm rooting for you all.
