Re: 2023 Scouting Report
My hike today was on fairly high pressure area and hill terrain.
A couple features were all in one elevation line and would be great for a buck to run during rut. Seemed to be a smart scouting plan.
Added lots of pins to the GPS including some preferred beds. Pockets of thick would have bedding but a few were out on points with great back cover. Stayed in the deer sign by working the one elevation.
Covered a couple miles between hiking and an ebike .
Good productive day.

Go afield with a good attitude, with respect for the wildlife you hunt and for the forest and fields in which you walk. Immerse yourself in the outdoor experience. It will cleanse your soul and make you a better person. - Fred Bear

Re: 2023 Scouting Report
Starting this weekend. I’m good in first few months of year and then late summer. Hoping to be better this year and consistent.
DNR dude showed me a photo of a buck on public where I hunt in Michigan and it was a stud. My goal is to find him!

Re: 2023 Scouting Report
Walked a new spot this afternoon. Gonna try my hand at river bottom this year. The peice is kinda swampy. I walked a couple transitions and found some decent sign. I needed knee boots to go into the swamp. I'll be back for sure.

Re: 2023 Scouting Report
Took my oldest daughter for a 3 hour scout today. Found some killer overlooked stuff with great sign and a good bed. Rubs all around.
Jumped a good buck in one area. Assuming rain holds off in going to get a few more miles in tomorrow

Got out and did some scouting and stump shooting with the longbow today and came across this rub. The near by swamp I know holds some big deer. Gonna dive in there next time out

Re: 2023 Scouting Report
Ive been scouting some new to me public. I can't hardly find a hunter. The woods are wide open with no pressure. I wish I still had a tag bc Im finding some big buck sign around a thick bedding area.

Im really disciplined about scouting Jan and Feb and late summer but awful for that in between time. Need to do some reading here on what I should be doing from March-July

March and April is really no different than January or February unless you want snow imo.May and June I probably do the least for the entire year good time to fish or turkey hunt.July and august can hang trail cams and look for velvet bucks

Re: 2023 Scouting Report
Girlfriend and I did 5 miles in hill country yesterday near my house. Found 3 beds and marked trees for next fall.
Did find a few stands near two saddles but lots of good areas that don’t appear to be hunted at all.
I’ve kind of avoided hill country the last few years but a goal of mine is killing a buck in hill country this year. The movement is so predictable just like the threads I read here said!
I did find a weird camera set up. A guy had a cell cam hooked to a regular camera for some reason. Also had another cell cam watching those cams. Anyone know why you would do this? Does the cell cam pull battery from the regular cam?

Appears to be a spypoint cell link hooked to a normal camera to convert it to a cell.
The other cell cam is an odd one? Unless it’s a non working cam and put up as a dummy to deter someone from stealing the other setup? Or maybe a test.

It was really weird. There was another cell cam watching those two cams. Guy was brave! No Python locks. I’ve had too many messed with over the years to skip the lock
