Newbe Western Experience
To start off, I have been wanting to hunt “out west” for a long time. Each year seems easier to find excuses, I mean reasons (hahaha) to not do it
Since the 2022 draws are long gone as well as left over permits….
Anyone recommend a critter to chase with an OTC tag?
First year in forever I have plenty of vacation time to use before Jan 1
Would limit my options to anywhere a plane and rental ride can get me and use of a firearm.
Thanks!!

I don’t hunt with a rifle out west I always wind up out there with a bow, but in all my readings over the years for what it’s worth you would probably have the best time this fall with an otc cow tag if your looking to chase elk. (Less crowded) I hear it’s a zoo at least in colorado during rifle season, but again I don’t know much.

I think the only non-resident OTC tags for big game in Montana are wolf and bear. Seems like everything else is a draw from the best of my recollection.

Is Colorado the state that has OTC cow tags?

I did hear that now that you mention it. I have not looked into it though since that happened.

Re: Newbe Western Experience
I know Colorado does. Several others probably do as well. Or at least leftover cow tags.

What ever you decide. Research it well before buying a tag. I know when I used to live in Montana. A lot of units would have left over cow tags. But most of those units. Where made up of private land. Private land owed by people that wouldn't ever allow access to anyone!!!
