Would love to know more about your technique and the how to’s, to you hunt that you feel helped make you successful.

My main technique is shoot my bow all the time so that whenever i see something i can almost snap shoot it. As much as you can with a compound (honestly a trad bow would be the perfect choice here)

I move when the wind is blowing. If i feel like I’m rushing i just stop for a while. The object is to see the deer before it sees you. If you’re not moving it won’t see you. A good friend gave me a nice rule of thumb. If it takes you less than an hr to go 100 yds you’re going too fast.

Hunt into the wind forsure. And just plan your routes. To head towards where you think the deer will be. I got this guy at 2:45 in the afternoon but that was rutting activity. I just would start at whatever time i felt confident would put me in a good spot about 30 mins before dark to then just sit. Some areas i just blow through forsure. If i weren’t glassing so hard on that dyke i would have just quickly walked across it. There’s only a very thin piece of woods there i really didn’t expect that to be the place it came together. I’m sure a large amount of luck was on my side. I’m definitely still learning but maybe some others who have had success doing this can post some helpful hints or if I’m wrong about anything I’ve said please correct me because i am all the way here for this type of hunting. It is just too much fun

Thank you for your reply!
I love still hunting too! I’ve just got to find where the deer are in the area I hunt. Better off season scouting on my part is necessary for sure.
Congratulations again and thank you for sharing.

Such a cool story. I really like how you’re focussed on your task, but still KEEP IT FUN!!
There are no scripts written how it HAS to be done. Many of my favorites hunts ended without a kill but a memorable hunt. Bringing home a trophy is just icing on the cake.

Congratulations clandestine.misfit!!

That’s definitely new for me this season. I put far too much pressure on myself and stress myself out a lot. Making most things i do slightly less than enjoyable if i am not perfect. I basically threw my hands up and said screw it this season. Just another great tool in my toolbox now to mix things up a bit and a fun way to kinda explore new land

Great story and great job.

I have been still hunting past 5 years and it is really paying off with more opportunities and more confidence. Makes me feel like a “hunter” as well. Binos and a light pair of hiking boots are a must for me. I am always looking for strong winds and / or wet conditions in the forecast.

Nothing beats still hunting when you are in a funk and need to make “something “ happen. Congratulations again.
