I was just curious if anyone will be using a horizontal rub this year. Ted Miller style.
If I can get up north in time I’d like to give it a shot just for fun. He recommends a scotch pine tree for the horizontal post.

Re: Horizontal Rub
I had good results in October but once does started coming into estrous bucks had other things on the brain.
My opinion is location of the setup is key. A well used travel route for bucks and does with a good scrape and licking branch also help a ton.
I’ll be starting both up in a few weeks. I used white pine I believe, fresh cut.

Re: Horizontal Rub
A person on a private farm with many large bucks is going to see very different results then a public hunter. Theirs not much competition on public ground in most areas for horizontal rubs to have a effect.
I have yet to see any tactic used on a Iowa farm be effective in a public hunting area.

Re: Horizontal Rub
I've been meaning to try this and have the perfect spot - a known rub line I found in DEC, really nice buck, just 100-200 yds from his bedding area. He destroyed a couple of big trees in there late last year but he used this bedding area all last season. Let's see what happens.
