Coke can turds?
Wasnt scouting when i found this. Just went to recover my bow hook from a stand on my private land when i almost stepped in it. Would this be classified as what SingingBridge calls a coke can turd? Size 12 rocky boot for comparison. Didnt see any tracks to size up the deer.

Re: Coke can turds?
From what I have read in the research, any individual nuggets 3/4 of an inch or more indicate a mature buck, not necessarily the size of the clump

Not quite!! Better than average though. If you've ever seen elk poo. Anything that size from a deer should interest you!!!

My 9 year old poops that big.... kid is a toilet clogging SOB.
I dont generally buy into the big poop equals big buck club, but it at least shows something mature (buck or doe) is hanging out.

Re: Coke can turds?
Look up Dr Ken Nordberg. he is a hunter, educator, scientist with information on what you are asking.
My observations in the north woods align with what he says.
He says...
Buck droppings during the fall of the year are often clumped... all bucks, young and old. So clumped does not mean big buck, just buck. Does do not produced clumped droppings. Bucks also produce single pellet piles of droppings during a lot of the year. Individual pellet size of 3/4" or longer indicates a mature buck. He says no doe has pellets 3/4" long or longer. So, Singing Bridges infamous "coke cans" is a clump of large (mature buck size) pellets. I don't believe the diameter of the "log" has any bearing on this?
There are also the arguments that clumped vs single pellets is based on food available (greens making wet sticky droppings, browse making dry individual droppings). All I know is the clumped being buck droppings and large pellets being bigger bucks has proven very useful to me when I am in the north woods.

Re: Coke can turds?
3/4”-1” dropping wether they are clumped up or not get my attention. I haven’t seen a time yet where it didn’t connect to mature buck sign or even a sighting. I even watched a huge mature buck dump a pile once and went to check it out. 1” droppings and a clump exactly the same size as a soda can with multiple piles just like it in the staging area. Is it 100% accurate? Obviously not since nothing rarely is but the odds are high enough that I pay a huge amount of attention to it.

Always love a turd discussion ...and believe me, I'm serious. Some of my best hunts have been based on finding higher than average concentrations of large poo!
