Interesting, what are you hoping to see or achieve with this?
I have made fake scrapes that I pee in and they seem to at least get the deer to.stop and smell around. Actually had a few pee in them also.

Just observing how it changes over time. Hoping to let the pictures speak for themselves but please feel free to comment on anything you are seeing here! I noticed some of the bark shaving are laying on a twig at the bottom of the picture. Wondering how long it takes for that to blow off with the wind. I am a dork, ha!

I’ve had good luck with mock scrapes, it’s usually how I set my trail cameras if it’s a good location for one. I also freshen up old scrapes if it looks promising. Works year round with the right location. I set a mock scrape up in my yard a few weeks ago, I’ve had 8-10 different bucks and several does use the licking branch. Can’t say I’d use one for a hunting situation , but seems to work well for trail cam use.

By day 9, the entire rub is all one color. The shavings in the ground are half covered up. This might be the most obvious statement but freshness seems to be best checked by moisture on the rub itself and the green colored bark.

Conifers maybe ? Fir, Spruce or withe pine ? I think rubs look older faster on those. I rarely see rubs on spruce though…

Very interesting that the tree turned the same color. I found that the specie of tree makes a big difference on what to expect. Good stuff… keep it coming!

Oh gosh, I should’ve known, haha! Well done, Lockdown! I would highly encourage people do this. I already feel like my confidence on determining what’s fresh vs old had gone up significantly. I am definitely going to try all different kinds of species of trees!
