Buck Rub, Beavers, Porcupines or something else?

Unread postby rs2893 » Sun Jun 26, 2022 11:12 pm

Scouted an oxbow yesterday and found a lot of damaged trees that looked like buck rubs. I was super pumped till I realized that there is also a beaver dam near by. Are these the work of bucks or those darn busy beavers?

A lot of that looks like flood stage damage cause by floating debris/ice banging into the trees in heavy current. Some of it sure does look like buck rubs.

Definitely not beavers.

Most of those appear to be buck rubs to me. A couple look a little suspicious, but overall I think you should be excited.

I have heard oxbows can be a challenge. I will put a camera up and if some guys show up then I get the chance to attempt a high degree of difficulty hunt. Will be fun to try, successful or not!

Second pic looks like beaver work. I have seen where they skin the bark off of a tree, down here in the South. It’s usually at least 1 ft wide all the way around the tree. I think it’s called ringing a tree. The others dunno?
