Help on large public parcel

Unread postby Chuckyw23 » Mon Nov 20, 2023 7:07 am

I spent a lot of time last summer scouting a smaller piece of public land in southern Michigan, only to find very small rubs low to the ground few scrapes etc. made the mistake of sticking all my eggs in the basket aswell. will probably end up with tag soup. However I’m currently looking at a large tract of public around 2300acres with over 9 miles of trail that run through it looking for any feedback of where to even start scouting. with it being slightly hilly I was thinking try to locate thermal hubs and try to get away from pressure I’m sure the trail is utilized by hunters which also makes me think to start looking at areas adjacent to parts of the trail that everyone walks down but nobody hunts this is my second year hunting state game and also being mobile so the learning curve is killing me

I recognize the area and have walked some of it. Use hill country tactics. Man the pressure is high in that area and the public a little northeast of there in another county. Low deer numbers on public but not on the surrounding private.Honestly I’m about ready to retire from hunting public land in southern mi. Good luck
