Sorry- got out of order. Wanted to get it down while it was fresh. We’re on the same page though. I think you have a handle on it personally. Hopefully some other guys can weigh in. Change up access is my best advice. Where you park as well.

Apparently my post vanished, but it was essentially the same as Todd4554. Access through the neighbors if you can. I think that on and off East side traffic was likely nighttime feeding given the Acorn info. Look at the crests and saddles and maybe even up in the grassy pines. What better bedding than to be booted out
immediately by anyone trying to kill you?

I park at the road and walk in unless I'm hunting the top half then I drive my wheeler up. Accessing through the neighbors is a no go, we don't have permission and he wouldn't give it. We mostly hunt weekends as it's an hour and 45 min from my house, so it gets time to rest.

Every deer on that place hears that quad as soon as you crank it. That would be the first thing I’d change. I also don’t think 5 days in between is rest, especially if you have hunting neighbors. I think you just need to change up what you are doing, or expect similar results.

X2. No offense, but I’d clear out any woods 4 times that size in my area with that kind of carbon footprint. Or at the very least keep them glued to their beds during light hours. I’d look for some public elsewhere and just hunt that the occasional morning on the West side or next year when the acorns are back, look at the East side in the right wind with stealthy access. That combo of food and less pressure could make that section more enticing for deer to hunker down on that ridge. Still have to be crafty with your approach and pick the perfect winds. Might be able to use those creek thermals to your advantage as well - and that bottom as well as the crests on the West side could be a good rut corridor if you can beat the wind back in the morning and have a westerly prevailing midday.

I can't say that I've seen that the deer hide when the wheeler starts, it seems they are used to people riding them around. I've almost hit them with it driving to the top. There's lots of atv/ utv and tractor activity all year round it seems.

On that ridge closest to the road, I had the thermals pull the air almost straight up, once the sun sets it sucks it right to the ground

Yeah- makes sense. I don’t envy you the challenges on this one. Would have to workout a set cross wind and up thermal during the day-or if you can get that creek to help. As far as the wheeler, it’s your choice, I’m just trying to help, but the older keener deer are tipped off by it for certain. You might get lucky and catch them in a stupor during rut, but mostly this sort of thing is defeating your purposes- based on my experience.

I know it holds deer, it's just tough trying to find the right spot for the right time. As for the atv it's tough cuz it's a 30 min walk up hill through mud and tough terrain and it's tough to walk up quietly or go for a 3 minute atv ride up there lol. Also it's damn near impossible not to get sweaty on the walk up

I suppose a parachute or hang glider is out of the question?
