After reading this during winter, I bit the bullet and planted an Arkansas Black the other day.
Now from the bazillion charts and versions I am looking for a partner for the pollen production.
Fuji or Gold rush seem to match up.
Anyone have feedback for me on this?
Thanks in advance.

Re: I’m going to plant apple trees
From what I read, Arkansas black can't pollinate other apple trees. So you may want to plant 3 trees.
Fuji isn't very disease resistant. Gold rush has cedar apple rust problems. If you have red cedar or junipers it maybe a problem. Its a late dropper like Arkansas black.
Freedom, Enterprise and chestnut crabapple are disease resistant. Chestnut crabapple drops in September, liberty mid October to late November, Enterprise November into December.
Cummins is a good place for info.

Arkansas Black is a triploid and will require two DIFFERENT pollinators for it to produce fruit.
Goldrush is about the easiest apple to grow.

You could plant a self pollinator that’s compatible if your short on space. Golden delicious should work.

Re: I’m going to plant apple trees
Thanks for the feedback.
It's been difficult to find a good match for the Arkansas Black and it might not have been the best choice. But I add plants constantly to the yard. Can always add another. Picked up a Fuji the other day.
So far I have high hopes since I have started early this year and both are good size, 6 to 8 foot tall. I avoided the mail order places like Stark brothers to have the biggest trees to start with.
Fuzzy buds are pushing out on the one planted on the 6th.

You don't have to be the best, just do your best.
