2023 Bear Tags are out.
Wisconsin 2023 bear tags are out... Let's hear who if you drew a tag, how many years it took you, are you going with a Guide service or DIY hunt, and what Zone. Good Luck

I’d really like to do a Wisconsin bear hunt just once. Bait or dogs.

My step daughter drew a tag for zone C. She won a guided bear hunt with Hooks and Bones outfitters and I'm still gonna run a couple baits though. Been a few years since I've baited but wanna get my old baits re-established, wife really wants to go bear hunting again.

I got a C tag but so far not much promise of a good hunt!

Re: 2023 Bear Tags are out.
My Bear season in Zone C was a total bust. Never hunted a single minute because the outfitter I hired never could show me an active bear bait. All I ever saw was one picture taken in early August of a bear walking by an empty stump. The outfitter actually took me to that location and told me this was one of my two baits. The stump he used wouldn’t even hold 3 gallons of bait and he said that he had “coon trouble” at this bait.
It is my suspicion that the bear in the picture came buy the very small stump that the coon had cleaned out never to return again. There was absolutely no Bear sign at this bait site and he was never able to show me another Bear picture there.
On the other so called “my bait” all he ever showed me was a couple pictures of a sow with cubs, no other Bear. Then later he told me that he stopped baiting this bait.
He had 22 baits out, had six gun hunters and myself, a dyed in the wool bowhunter. Even told him that when we first talked yet when I drove 8 hours one way for him to show me “my baits” he thought I was another gun hunter. I wasted my Bear tag and deposit on this guy that I depended upon because he came highly recommended. His baiting methods are a joke. Very small stumps that couldn’t even hold 5 gallons and then only baited every 2-3 days. Geez 3 gallons of bait every other day is not going to hold Bear let alone last for your “coon troubles) till another gets its picture taken coming to check out an empty bait stump.
Near as I know none of his other hunters killed a bear.
If I had still lived in Wisconsin I would have baited myself and not wasted 8 points on a C tag. You see at 74 years of age and knowing it might have taken 3-4 more years to draw an A tag I chose the C tag route while I was still able to bowhunt. And before someone says it, I do know how to successfully bait Bear. Have killed 6 bears with recurves, plus passed on countless dozens of others, all on diy baits plus helped/advised at least another 10-12 friends to their bears. Shooting my first bear over diy bait in 1969 and another one 6 years later, feel I know more than this outfitter does on how to have successful Bear baits.
What a complete waste of $$, points and my time for what most likely will be my last ever Bear bowhunt!
