Re: Things are looking up
I think I may have blew it on my target bear, this was a new bait and they are coming from exactly the opposite direction I thought they would. It seems this happens a lot. He has not visited the bait in daylight since Sunday. I’m not giving up on him but am definitely looking at other options!
The bait my son shot his on has been hammered again as well as another bait that had went dry , also picked up a possible shooter on another bait that had only had a couple yearlings since day one.
I couldn’t check cameras yesterday since my reader batteries died first bait so it was just like the old days!!
I came upon a bear on the road with a bucket stuck on his head. I hope he can get it off and I think he probably will. I drove right up to him before he got off the road but he was still too quick for a picture. Had I been armed I may have just filled my tag. It still surprises me how much garbage people leave in the woods either on accident or on purpose...... if you see someone else’s mess pick it up please!

Great hunts and congrats! How does the 7mm-08 do with the bears? What bullet are you guys shooting?

The 7mm-08 is a great round, he has shot a few deer with it and now the bear. He shot the bear through the ribs 6” back of the shoulders and 6” under the spine, punched through both sides and anchored it on the spot. He is shooting Hornady superformance 139gr SST

That's awesome! I have the rem 7mm-08 did some trigger work due to the recalls and put a nice VX-6 on top. I look forward to harvesting some game with it in the near future. A bear hunt is definately on my list, kinda hung up with this bow thing right now.

Re: Things are looking up
Bears are made for bowhunting! I shot mine at 4 yards. I’m mostly a Bowhunter but I don’t mind breaking out the rifle from time to time. My son bowhunts too but is pretty limited on time due to football so he chose the rifle.
Garrett’s rifle is the savage axis, it could use a better scope. We shot quite a few loads with less than stellar accuracy but it likes the superformance.
