BAH.

That is a very solid (WILD!) black bear in anybody's book, regardless of its' sex.
Solid healthy condition, big head, gorgeous pelt. Mature bear.

So maybe it isn't 600 pounds of badly-rubbed blubber like so many "garbage dump bears" you often see pics of, but It's one that I would rather shoot.

That's the first thing I noticed is the nice thick pelt!
That's a dandy Dan, Congrats!

It has the best hide I've ever seen on a black bear

That’s great I’m sure it does. Great bear congrats to Dan but it’s not a big bear it’s a fine bear just not big. Average MN bear. You guys are being sensitive.

Thanks everyone who made positive comments... Its not the monster I was after, but very few people would pass that bear. My best guess would put that bear at about 300 dressed, give or take 20 or 30 pounds... A solid black bear anywhere. If you dont know much about bears, you may think thats a low weight. But, the average bear shot in Wisconsin weighs less than 150 pounds dressed according to our DNR biologists, who are also quick to tell you that Wisconsin is among the highest average... Im not sure what Minnesotas average is, But I would put it well below Wisconsin. With one more day left, and my target M.I.A. I was really happy to have this one come visit... Looking forward to the age data from sending the tooth in.. It was an epic hunt, and will be a great show on our youtube channel...

The average size of bears shot in Minnesota is about 120 pounds. Looking forward to the youtube video. I had five hunters, four killed their first night on stand the other guy killed the second night. His was 375. huge bear.

Congrats to you!
