Congrats and thanks for letting myself follow along with your posts. Almost felt as if I was in camp with you though physically not there.

Friend’s Dad with a bear from a couple days in Minnesota.

We still have baits getting hit and I still have a tag, been waiting for a big one and have passed a lot. Still hoping to shoot one.

This paragraph was posted by another hunter in a different hunting forum, I thought it is interesting that so far this fall two hunters have been attacked by bears.
"Well I had an eventful hunt tonight. I was hunting from a ground blind when about 540 a black bear came thru. He noticed me at about 40 yards and came waking in. I stood up and yelled and made a lot of noise and he wasn't rattled. He made a couple of small charges and then circled around me and started coming closer. At 20 yards I was yelling and threw a folding chair at him. He charged a bit closer. I yelled, waved my arms. And he made a short charge. I threw another chair, a couple of boards and my water bottle at him. He charged a bit again. He was at 10 yards, snapping his teeth and growling. When he tensed up to charge again I shot him in the chest. The Warden came and checked everything out and said I had done all I could to scare him off. Helped the Warden get him.out of the woods and into his truck. Likely will have it tested as it may have been sick or even rabid. Not an experience I want to have again." Glad the hunter wasnt harmed and he made the right choice....this is exactly why I carry bear spray and a side arm.

He must not have been hunting bear I guess. Otherwise the story doesn't add up. Who wouldn't shoot a bear that size right away?

Any more info on where this took place?

I think the 540 was not the weight but time - at 5:40 pm when the bear came in.

There’s nothing about size discussed and it’s unlikely it was real big since 2 guys got it out of the woods and into a truck.

Those 3-4 year old males are the only ones that scare me sometimes, they are surly and unpredictable. Seems like they are always fighting for pecking order and you never know when you might catch one in a bad mood.

I just received the age results from the Minnesota DNR from the bear I harvested last Fall, they say it was 11 years old.
