. Yes you are correct but if I had a chance to do it and lived in bear country I definitely would.Redeye wrote:I believe in Minnesota you can “feed” bears all year long if you’d like to. Its just that a hunted bait site has to be a set distance from where you were feeding them. I think it’s just to much work to try to keep up to feeding bears for long periods of time for most people so that’s why it’s not done.

Not on purpose, my wife lost her job of 19 years (downsizing) we ended up losing our home and my guide service. To this day it's one of my biggest regrets handing over my guide service to someone else, should have just retired the business name.

Don't know the full details just yet but I heard the Feds just shut down the BWCA. Maybe Jimmy Wallner can shed some light on this

It is true. The Forest Service notified the permit cooperators first and some media contacts. They finally got around to releasing this announcement:
The rumors are true. The Superior National Forest is closing the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, effective August 21, 2021, due to active and increasing fire activity, extreme drought, limited resources. The closure will be in place for seven days, and may be modified or extended as conditions allow.
This closure includes all lands, waters, trails, portages, campsite, canoe routes and Wilderness entry points in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The Forest has notified permit holders and outfitters and is cancelling permits today through August 27. Permit holders will be fully reimbursed. At this time, all overnight paddle, day use and motorized day use is cancelled. The Forest will reopen portions of the Wilderness and/or some uses when it is safe.
We did not make this decision lightly. We understand it will have significant impacts on business and our visitors. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Re: My 2021 Minnesota Bear Hunt
Written from my guide Jim Wallner: We are 39-40 on bait sites hit. There’s plenty of hazelnuts in the area as well as mountain ash berries. The raspberry crop is small, blueberries are non-existent.
Water is also in short supply. Beaver ponds, swamps, and lots of creeks and small rivers are dry to minimal flow.
It is also hot here, mid 90’s almost daily. We also are in extreme fire danger and all open flame is under a ban. We presently have a large wildfire in the area and several smaller ones.
Be smart and be safe.
