Dodged a Bullet
I won the lottery and am one lucky guy. I play basketball twice a week, I consider myself in decent shape but that thought and realization came crashing down on me yesterday while playing the 3rd game of the night. Won’t bore you guys with the fine details but I had a heart attack, my LAD artery was 80% blocked, it’s the largest artery that wraps around your heart, also known as the Widow Maker artery because if it gets to 100% it kills you. I will be ok and in no time will be back on the court and enjoying the north woods. Stay healthy my friends and listen to your body, it will tell you when there’s something wrong, don’t hesitate to go and get things checked out.

Re: Dodged a Bullet
Glad you made it.
Rule of thumb in playing basketball: Play four times a week or don't play at all. I followed the 4 times a week for 30 years then had to quit at 55 due to a knee. Gained 25 pounds when I quit. THat sucks.

Yes but I thought it was heart burn, I even told my wife 3 weeks ago that something is not right.

Re: Dodged a Bullet
Just curious how old you are Mike?
A friend had a heart attack at 58, almost lost him, but he's fine now. The doctor told him 58 is the most common age to have a heart attack.

My dad had the same blockage, and two others.he ended up having a 3 way bypass. He was told that if he didn’t he would be dead within a year. He was 61 at the time and that was 22 years ago.
If you eat right and take care of yourself there is a lot of hunting seasons left to hunt.

Re: Dodged a Bullet
Been dealing with a herniated L-5 disc since October. Two weeks ago I felt burning in my chest and it felt like someone was sitting on me. Checked my BP at work and it was 169/126. Texted my PT guy who’s a friend also and he called me immediately and asked if I needed a ambulance! I said no I think I’m fine it’s probably pain related and stress. He told me the second sign of a heart attack is denial.
Long story short the nurses were waiting at the front doors for me. My BP had shot up to 190/130. I’m on medication now for the last couple weeks and it has brought it down. Had some blood work done and now I’m on some cholesterol meds. Bad tickers and high cholesterol run in my family. They set me up for a stress test but I’m unable to take it because of my back. Chronic pain is no joke.
Glad to hear your ok Mike. To many bear and deer left to hunt!

Wake up calls are a good thing... What ever doesn't kill you makes you stronger and smarter. Been watching a lot of friends and family punch the ticket lately. Gotta stay on top of it so we have you around for a lot more bear seasons...
