My buddy that dropped it in its tracks clipped the front shoulder. I’d imagine it’s not real recommended but I’ve seen several videos preaching a neck shot to drop them on the spot. What I’ve witnessed and read a bunch a well placed double lung shot rarely results in much more than a 30-50 yard track job. The biggest hindrance to trailing really is the lack of blood. I’d guess horror stories about bears going long ways involves poor shot placement into a shoulder blade or some other non lethal area.
