Turkey broadheads

Unread postby moarcher88 » Fri Jan 19, 2024 3:08 pm

Planning on doing some bow hunting for turkeys this spring. Does anyone have recommendations for turkey broadheads?

I used to shoot Dead Ringer Trauma heads but they discontinued them. It was a 2-blade mechanical that was adjustable from 2 3/4”-3 1/8” cut. Flew like a field tip and destroyed turkeys haha. They’ve since discontinued them. They now make the Super Freak. Another buddy of mine shoots the Rage Xtreme. He prefers this head.

Large cut mechanicals or Magnus Bullheads. They are tough critters with a small kill zone, so the bigger the better.

For sure, I found this out two seasons ago, shot a gobbler straight down from a tree stand with a magnus stinger buzzcut. Pinned him to the ground for a second, flopped and snapped my arrow in half, ran a couple yards and flew across a pond. Never found that one.

I have shot a few in the body with Rocket expandables the biggest cut they had at 2 inches. Really did a number on them.

I have some magnus bullheads on the way. I've never bowhunted turkeys but am planning to try to check that box this spring. I can't imagine trying to find a turkey after 100-200 yards of flight/run down here, nor do I want to take the chance on wounding, so I'm head shooting. We'll see how it goes.
