Re: Arrow placement pics
Just hit 'em where the drumsticks attach to the body and you'll be good to go HH. Next year I'm heading back to Kansas for an archery hunt, you can drive.

Re: Arrow placement pics
Good info Muddy, but those high quartered-to shots are iffy......hit high and you're getting all feathers, hit low and you have a wounded bird. Your best angle is either broadside or quartered away.....with these you'll either get the hips or the spine. If you NEED to shoot at the front of the bird you may as well aim at the base of the waddles.

Re: Arrow placement pics
im a die hard turkey hunter, and im not sure if I agree with a lot of those pictures....
If you shoot that bird high, there is nothing there but flight mucsle or breasts. all the vitals are very low, and all the way back.
think of a chicken or turkey you get from the store? Why would you want to hit him in the meat?
Also, do not aim for the dang beard... thats crazy I garentee it will get atleast partially cut if not most of it?
The only way to shoot a strutting bird is exactly like your picture, right up the tail pipe... or base of the fan. That is where his organs are.
Aim low when hes broadside so you can take out his legs, wings AND most importantly vitals.
This season I will attempt the gobbler guilitine head shot!
those broadheads, they only are made for neck/head shots.
Its more easy to loose a tom with an arrown than a monster buck. Them suckers run 40mph and hide quicly.... even if they do die.
Great discussion.

I always center the pin on the bird body. No matter the direction he is facing. Kind of takes the guess work out of it.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Was wondering when someone would chime in on that pic. But seriously - this thread is really good.

Here is a short video of a bird I shot a few years back just to show how effective this shot placement really is.........
