Arrow placement pics

Unread postby muddy » Thu Jan 13, 2011 2:51 pm

These are something I made up for another web site many moons ago. My personal opinions on where to shoot turkeys with a bow in different positions.

Ooops, guess I missed that last one. Anyway, I once heard a phrase, "hit 'em high and watch 'em die, hit 'em low and watch 'em go" thus I try to aim up in the upper third of the body. Generally hits the spine and they crappie flop on the spot, if not usually hit the vitals and they run off, roll over, and do the upside down bicycle pump.

A general rule of thump Ive kinda come up with (from looking at a ton of shot placement photos) is that when they are in full strut, you aim about at the level of the bottom of their neck, and when they are not in full strut, its about the level of the top of the beard..

Cool thread Muddy.

A couple of them looked at little high for me, but I agree that higher is better than lower.

Interesting thanks muddy! I am going to try to kill my first gobbler with a bow this yr!

On the one where the turkey is strutting facing away do you really aim there or where you just censoring a graphic photo?

If a gobbler is in full strut going straight away I will shoot right for the bung hole, you get everything.

Initially I thought some were a little high, but what Muddy said makes sense to me. I can admit losing a bird because I hit him too low. I thought I smoked him.

For more conversation, the upper 1/3 of the bird is where you need to be. Below that and you're in the breast keel bone.

All good information as I don't know squat about turkeys. Would have never guessed to aim that high.
