What’s your go to Turkey gun?

Unread postby Wlog » Wed Jan 20, 2021 10:02 pm

I’m in the market for a new Turkey gun. Not wanting to break the bank and thinking about looking at used guns first.

I shoot the Remington 870 Express 3.5” shells.
My son shoots the 2.75” shells out of it too.

Winchester model 37A, 30" barrel, full choke, 3" chamber. Bought new in 1976 for $23 at a hardware store closing. Been a while since I've bought a gun turkey license, have opted for the bow tag.

870 or mossberg 500 are probably the way to go for inexpensive and reliable. Kind of what I was thinking.

Are you hunting from a pop up blind with the bow?

I have a Benelli Super Black Eagle 2 and love it. Last year I took my old Winchester 1300 Turkey Special out for fun and it still broke a beak.

Mossberg Pump. 12 gauge. I have think its a 500.

I really like Mossberg shotguns they are great for the price..

Most of my expensive guns are no better then the mid priced ones they come off the same assembly lines most of the time.

Haven't turkey hunted much I might try too this year.

I have several different 20 ga shotguns I use for turkeys. Franchi Affinity, Rem 1100’s, and Rem 870. All will kill birds dead further than I care to shoot with my handloads.

Dad started me on pheasants with a .410, I still have it. It takes an almost expert shot to use a 410. 410 shells are EXPENSIVE since there isn't much demand. I'd suggest a 20 gauge for a beginner, just my experience.
