I killed #1 on 3/20.

I haven’t gotten a lot of hunts in, nothing close to my normal. Been a rough few weeks at work and a lot of stuff going on at home. Did call a bird in for a buddy on 3/27 but he didn’t get him killed.

Still a few weeks left here and that’s my favorite time to hunt anyway. Hope to knock down another or two. Good luck to everyone.

So far it's been a very active morning. 2 Tom's about a 125 yes out. They were with 3 hens. Nothing I could do would pull them away. Thought I could flank them but they are way to fast and eyesight is way to good. I think I messed up this spot so I'm gonna move about 300yds. We'll see what happens.

Bought a leftover Iowa tag for this weekend. Only have Friday and Saturday to hunt, gotta be back for Easter. Weather is not looking great. Really windy and kinda chilly. I’ll be in NE Iowa in the hills.
Question is how do you guys go about hunting in 15-25mph winds? Stay in the bottoms and valleys? Setup in a bottom field and blind call all day? Cant imagine the birds would want to be up on tops?

This is only my 3rd year of turkey hunting so I still have a ton to learn but the way I understand it is if your hunting hills then you want to get down in the bottoms. If your in more open areas then hunt there because they cant hear as good due to wind but can see great in open fields. You need to have a box call or pot call because it cuts through the wind better then a mouth call. As for calling make sure it's loud. Tomorrow is gonna be 20+ mph, I will be hunting a alfalfa field that I seen the strutting this morning. Dale outdoors has some pretty good videos on turkey hunting the wind. Let us know how you do. Good luck!

Took this bird this morning at 9:50. I didn't hear any gobbles on the roost this morning, that had me a little worried. Anyway at around 630 I saw a tom strutting with 3 hens. Not a single sound from either. Around 7 it got very windy 20+ mph wind, suppose to hit over 45mph this afternoon. Well around 8ish I decided to deer scout, mind you I never heard 1 gobble or a cluck/Yelp all morning, including at roost. Well the wind was getting pretty bad so I decided to go sit where I saw the flock go to in the morning. I was using my box call and pot call to cut the wind. My box call is way louder so I mainly used that to Yelp, cluck and the occasional gobble about every 15 mins or so. I was actually starting to get frustrated. I looked at my phone and no service but all of a sudden I heard a really close gobble. I threw my phone down and got my shotgun ready. I saw a white head bobbing through the trees and all of a sudden I got my first turkey of 2022. Is was only my 2nd day of the season. Don't get discouraged like I was!!

Thanks! I wish I was good enough to make it look easy! I'm lucky enough to hunt a good property that has turkeys.
