Ok, so that was as exciting as my turkey hunt got. Saw a few hens, yippee.

But my day then morphed into what turned out to be 90% spring deer scouting. Got a lot done. Will it pan out? Stay tuned.

Will try again tomorrow at some ludicrous hour. I got to my first place at 430 and had to go all the way to plan D. Thought I was doing ok time wise, but I guess not

One of those mornings when it seemed like every move I made was the wrong one. Actually had two toms, each splitting with different hens. One spooked away due to a house cat that I'm sure was no threat, but the hen didn't like it and skedaddled, taking him with her. The other busted me twice when I was looking to set up. He ambled over the hill at just the wrong times. 60 seconds later and it might have been different. Oh well.

Ive been on the struggle bus for turkeys on public lately. I have been on them only to call to them on the roost and have hens they are roosted with take them away. Ive been thinking about sitting under their roost trees to break the slump hopefully. Doesnt sound like a super exciting way to hunt but something has to change. Anyone do this? How soon before dark do you set up under a roost area?

Congrats Hawthorne! I have been grinding since Saturday but only hens and Jake’s so far. All the big boys been on neighboring properties in my area. Been hearing a lot of gobbles but the Tom’s won’t commit.

Killed 2 birds here in Nebraska so far.

April 2nd, 2022 killed a nice Tom with my bow.

May 1st, 2022 killed a double bearded Tom with the 12 gauge.

What a great spring! Onto deer season prep.
