Live from the Turkey field '23

Hunted hard the last 4 days with a few close calls and finally connected this afternoon on a nice Driftless public land Tom. Struck him high on a ridgetop at 2:30 PM during a break in the high winds and rain over the last 48 hours.

Worked him for an hour and a half while crawling to close the last 100 yards and shot him at 18 yards right at 4 PM, when his curiosity finally got the best of him and his head crested the top of the bench where I was waiting downhill. Good lesson in shutting up and being patient.

22.5 pounds with 1 1/8" spurs. Weird inch and a half beard, wonder if he lost it fighting or maybe a predator.

Congrats. Hard to say on the beard. I’ve shot gobblers with no spurs, no beard, one spur, you never know. Shot a big gobbler with a jake gobble one year.

Went scouting for deer on a wma that's turkey only quota. Had like 6 loud gobbles while looking for deer sign.

Saw a few toms but they worked off way far away.

Couple a hens decided to say hi.
