Incredible abandoned resort
I found this place when I was bear baiting in Ontario a couple years ago. Went back and filmed it with my wife a couple weeks ago. Really amazing place, thought you all would be interested.

Fascinating .... like a ghost town. Do people still fish the lake catch and release ?

Re: Incredible abandoned resort
I found a few of those over the years. Always very interesting and always think about the stories that could be told and the fun times that were had there and most of all why were they abandoned?

Been a lot of years now and people do fish the area and eat the fish.

That was pretty cool. I must say I am interested now in searching about the mercury, and the source. Thanks for sharing

Re: Incredible abandoned resort
Great video and an amazing place. The cabins with intact roofs almost look like someone could move back into one today.

Re: Incredible abandoned resort
Amazing how well those cabins have held up.
My cousin owns a similar resort in Alaska; from what I understand of it without significant annual maintenance the muskeg/tundra would pretty much swallow it all within a couple decades.
He's constantly jacking and shoring them up as they slowly sink.
The condition of those Ontario cabins, (and especially the massive stone fireplaces) indicates to me that it was all built on very solid ground; and probably solid ROCK!
So sad that it couldn't have been used and enjoyed by thousands more people since the mercury warning...

The story on the fly in resort is quite amazing. Lots of info online about it and the coverup of the mercury in the water.

Re: Incredible abandoned resort
Super cool place to stumble upon like that. Exciting and fun, at the same time a bit lonely and sad. Amazing though, the place abandoned for so long and it still looks to be in decent shape. There was even one shot toward the end of a screened in porch with water leaking on a floor that somehow hasn't rotted out.
I feel like someone - relatives of the original owner perhaps? - must be coming there periodically and maintaining the place.

What I wouldn't give to hang my toolbelt up and move there! What a place and absolutely a dream to an outdoorsman.

Re: Incredible abandoned resort
After reading just two articles.....
Lamm was blowing the whistle in the 70's about the high levels of mercury from 1970-1975. And in 2018 they are still doing studies finding health problems, and they haven't cleaned up the river?! Though this article says Canada has pledged $85 to clean it up and a treatment center.

I don't get it.
